Races as Classes, Remixed. Extra: The Halfling.
Halfling are a race of cat people, quite similar to the the common domestic cat. As humanoids, they are quite tiny: they stand at the 3'10''-4'2 range. Despite this, they have developed a martial culture, with pride and discipline as the preferred virtues. Halflings consider themselves humanoid tiggers, and while it's not uncommon for bigger humanoid races to be patronizing towards halflings or to laugh at them, kings and emperors have learned to respect halfling armies and halfling guerrilla warriors have brought to heel much bigger forces.
A-Pounce, Cat Nap, Marching provisions.
B-Eye of the tiger, Rat Hunting.
C-Great Tiger Soul.
D-The Tiger eats Dragons for breakfast.
Pounce
After reducing an enemy to 0 hp, you may immediately Leap up to 10 feet and attack another enemy. pounce won't activate if there's no enemy in range or if you have and adjacent enemy.
Due to your size, you may only wield weapons of up to 1d6 damage.
Cat Nap Once per day, a halfling might enjoy all the benefits of a short rest after a 10 minute nap. While napping, halflings can't do anything: they may not listen to a lesson, they may not walk, they can't even be carried.
Marching provisions
While chefs around the world experiment in an effort to impress nobility most of cooking comes from a practical stand point, from what's available and what's needed. Traditionally, halfling soldiers got to enjoy an all-meat diet but had very little time to prepare or enjoy it. This made them develop their own recopies; it's said that the same dish can have more than one hundred variations depending of where a legion was deployed.
A halfling may take 10 minutes to prepare [template] meat or fish based rations, so they provide 1d6 thp to whomever eats them. This thp doesn't stack.
Eye of the tiger
Know your enemy to know how to bring them down. Once per turn, as a free action, the halfling may inspect an enemy to learn how many Hit Dice it has. If it's lower than [templates], the next melee attack from the Halfling brings the enemy down to 0 hp.
Rat hunting
As long as you can see someones eyes you can tell if they are lying; it has to be an explicit lie, half-truths and lies of omission won't count. If you have a question about a settlement you may spend an hour in the streets to discover the answer, from the average citizens point of view.
Great Tiger Soul
You gain a new resource: Great Tiger Souls (GTS for short). You may spend a GTS for one of the following:
-After dropping an enemy to 0 hp jump up to 20 feet with Pounce or attack an adjacent enemy.
-After a melee attack hits, up the damage die of the weapon to 1d8 and make it explode on 8s.
-After rolling a save you may spend a GTA to reroll it. If it's a "save halves" kinf of deal, you may also spend a GTS to negate all damage on a success.
You get [template] GTS. You may recover them all with a long rest or you may recover one by dropping a higher Hit Dice enemy to 0 hp.
The Tiger eats Dragons for breakfast
When you use your Eye of the Tiger on an enemy with the same Hit Dice or higher, you deal double damage to them with all melee attacks. If they damage you in any way to become immune to this effect for the rest of the day.
This is the only "Race as class" that's completely original instead of based on a tumblr post. Adapting halflings was harder than expected because their main traits are "small" and "lucky".
"Lucky" was easy to clear since cats are pretty wildly regarded as "lucky" animals. ¿but what about "small"? Rabbits are pretty small, but Elves were human sized. ¿How do I develop on this trait?
That's where the tiger imagery came in. Halfling are not just small: they insist that they are mighty jungle cats despite being a pretty "kickable" race. And from there the gameplan of the class became clear: a class that's great at dealing with low hp enemies but as it gains templates can also become a real threat to higher level bosses.
I hope managed to translate that concept into a class. As always, i greatly appreciate any input: https://komments.cloud/ef7cf38c77969b21bbf65c
